Super Smash Brothers Brawl-Character Possibilities

Nintendo listed a few reasons for bumping the Super Smash Bros Brawl release date into next year, a big one being that they didn’t want to compete with all the December holiday releases. However, Sakurai also mentioned that they wished to elaborate on certain features of the game. What with the release date be moved forward a couple months and certain features of the game yet to be announced, there’s still very much room for speculation as to what’s in store. One very hot topic seems to be the game’s characters, as Smash Bros has always been famous for bringing characters from various games together and clashing them, so to speak.

Being a huge Smash fan myself, and having looked forward to Brawl ever since it was announced, I have my own list of characters I would love to see in the upcoming Smash title. Not only that, but I have good reason to be believe many of these characters have a good chance of showing up in the game.

Megaman

The first Megaman game appeared on the NES, offering superior graphics and control in comparison to other games.

megamanzx8.jpeg Since then, over thirty Megaman games have been released, most of them being 2d action platformers like the original, and on a Nintendo platform. Megaman, the character, has many names and forms: Megaman, Megaman X, Megaman Zero, Megaman ZX etc, any one of which are likely fighters and would be cool to see in Brawl.

Rayman

Rayman is very probably Ubisoft’s most-known character, and has reappeared recently in Rayman Raving Rabbids. A rumor stating Nintendo’s considering an Ubisoft character to appear in Brawl adds credence to the idea of Rayman joining Brawl. And I think it would be cool. ravingrabbids.jpeg

Cloud Strife

A guy can dream, can’t he? Well, maybe it is possible. You decide. Cloud Strife is a Square-Enix character, famous for his appearance in Final Fantasy 7, a hugely acclaimed rpg. Cloud appeared in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories on Gameboy Advance, making it a somewhat possible addition to Brawl’s character roster.

Ridley

Ridley first appeared in Metroid on the NES, and has reappeared in the Metroid Prime games as Meta-Ridley. He’s something of Samus Aran’s nemesis. At first appearance it would seem he’d be hard to control because he’s a creature and he flies, but consider Charizard, who was just recently added as a playable character. Ridley would fit in perfectly with Pit, Metaknight and Charizard in my opinion. Also, it was recently announced that there will be a stage in Brawl based on the character Ridley.

Sora

Sora is another Square-Enix character I’d like to see in Brawl. He hails from the Kindom Hearts games. The fact that he’s appeared in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, a Nintendo platform, could lead one to wonder whether Nintendo has considered having him join Brawl.

Ganondorf

ganon.jpeg

Eiji Aonuma, director of Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess has already stated in an interview,

Actually, my designers did work on the designs for Sheik and Link and Ganondorf. So they submitted the initial designs, and so it would fit in the Smash Bros. Brawl environment, they’ve had to tweak some of the designs. But Sakurai has brought those altered designs to NCL. We’re working very closely with the team of Smash Bros. Brawl to make sure the characters look their best.

Smash fans were able to pit Link against his arch-nemesis, Ganondorf, in the last Smash title, Melee. Let’s hope he’ll be a full-fledged character this time around, instead of a clone, like he was before. Ganondorf using Captain Falcon’s moves? Really weird.

Nights

Nights is a, uh, um, a thing. I guess. Actually, it’s usually described as a Jester. Nights appeared in the very popular NIGHTS Into Dreams on the Sega Saturn, and is returning for NIGHTS: Journey of Dreams on the Nintendo Wii. It seems like this kind of character would fit Brawl’s art style, but those are just my thoughts.

Vaati

If there was a bad-guy version of Link, this would be it. Admit it though; he’s awesome. Vaati is an enemy of Link, that is, the main antagonist in Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap on the Gameboy Advance. He also appeared in A Link to the Past: Four Swords, also on the Gameboy Advance. Most of his attacks would probably be magic-based, but I’m sure that would work nicely. Wouldn’t you love to see this guy face off against Link? Come on, you know you do!

Dante

If Snake, why not Dante from Devil May Cry? In my opinion he features the perfect blend of ranged and melee attack styles for Brawl. However, I’ve yet to really know whether or not Nintendo may have a problem with Dante being a half-demon entity from an M-rated game. Besides that though, Dante may have a possibility of joining.

Ryu Hayabusa

ryu.jpeg

Ryu Hayabusa first appeared in Ninja Gaiden on the NES about twenty years ago. The more recent Ninja Gaiden games have been on the Xbox, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma is scheduled for release on the PS3. However, Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword on the DS will mark Ryu’s first return to a Nintendo platform in decades. If he is added as a playable character in Brawl now, it will be perfect timing.

Black Knight

Could we use more Fire Emblem characters in Smash Bros? I think so. Could we use more villains? You bet! Say hello to Black Knight. He hails from Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, the same game as Ike and the newest game in the series. He’s rather a nemesis of Ike’s. I think Marth will probably return for Brawl, considering he’s practically Fire Emblem’s main character. And if Ike is indeed replacing Roy, they should add a villain. Black Knight would be ideal.

Bowser Jr.

Whether or not Luigi returns, I think Bowser Jr would be great to add to the selection of Mushroom Kingdom characters. Bowser Jr first appeared in Super Mario Sunshine, where he kidnapped Peach for Bowser because, well, he thought Peach was his mother. Yeah, I didn’t really get it either. Anyway, he’d be a likely addition. And he’d be cool.

That’s pretty much what I’ve got right now. Feel free to comment, and leave your opinion and ideas.

Update:

Emil

Emil is to be in the Tales of Symphonia: Knights of Ratatosk on the Wii. Inclusion as a playable character would not only help the popularity of Tales of Symphonia, but he would be fun to play as as well.
